During your criminal defense practice day, you face a variety of cases and situations. This seminar will prepare you for that variety with lectures on CSAAS and expert cross as well as a chance to get your Breath Testing questions answered. Included in this day is a repeat of a defense primer on drug cases from Syracuse earlier this year. This lecture is one of NYSACDL’s highest reviewed and you have the opportunity to hear it in person.

Faculty Bios & Topics

Child Sexual Abuse Accommodation Syndrome (CSAAS) and Cross Examination of the Prosecution’s Expert Witness
Amy B. Marion, Barket, Marion, Epstein & Kearon

New York is one of the only states that allows CSAAS expert testimony in a child sexual abuse trial. A detailed and complicated topic, understanding CSAAS is critical. This lecture will focus on what CSAAS is, how the expert’s testimony can and cannot be used and how you can try to keep it out of trial.

Breath Testing - Your Questions Answered
Carrie Kirkton, Supervisor of Forensic Services, Toxicology Section, NY State Police Forensic Investigation Center

An expert Forensic Scientist, Ms. Kirkton will provide seminar attendees with an explanation of the scientific principals of breath testing. The presentation will also review the methods used for quality control of NY State Police breath testing devices. You will have an opportunity to get your questions about breath testing answered during a Q&A with Ms. Kirkton.

Don’t Be The “Dope” In Your Next Drug Case – A Defense Primer
Donald G. Rehkopf, Jr., Brenna, Brenna and Boyce PLLC

A repeat presentation of a highly-reviewed presentation by Mr. Rehkopf in Syracuse, this presentation will provide an in-depth, practical approach to investigating, preparing and defending a drug case. To properly and zealously defend a drug case demands skill sets rarely encountered in other criminal cases. They also require analytic abilities that go beyond the parameters of the law. Get prepared with this two-hour presentation.
