NYSACDL Applauds the New York State Legislature for Supporting a Statewide Prosectuorial Conduct Commission

The New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NYSACDL) applauds the New York State Senate and Assembly on the passage of Bill A5285-C/S2412-D establishing a statewide Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct. This commission addresses a key problem that leads to continued prosecution violations of ethics rules and criminal procedure laws – prosecutors’ lack of public accountability.

NYSACDL President Robert G. Wells said that “We thank Senator John DeFrancisco and Assembyman Nick Perry, our Champions in their respective houses, for sponsoring the bill creating the Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct. This Commission will bring accountability to and disciplinary consequences for unethical behavior of prosecutors in New York State – a necessary part of ensuring a fair criminal justice system for all New Yorkers. We urge Governor Andrew Cuomo to take the important next step of signing this bill.”
