NYSACDL Weighs in on a Controversial Ruling by the NYC Criminal Court

NYSACDL weighed in on a controversial ruling by the NYC Criminal Court, allowing prosecutors to obtain an email “signature” for a supporting deposition. NYSACDL was contacted by the NYLJ for our views, and in a letter written by First Vice-President John S. Wallenstein, NYSACDL strongly opposed the use of this shortcut, noting that “accusing someone of committing a crime, and seeking to deprive them of liberty, is a far cry from an Amazon.com purchase.”
